Upcoming Fundraiser

Dr. Koning is a general surgeon who lives in Bend. He recently retired from the practice of medicine in the Bend area, and has been working with the Medical Teams International, traveling and working in Ethiopia.

In the course of his work there, he has discovered that more than 20 thousand children die every year from hydrocephalus, commonly known as “water on the brain.” In Ethiopia , there is one doctor for every 40,000 people. There are only two surgeons in the entire country. The children with hydrocephalus could all be saved if they had a $40 shunt put in, to drain the fluid from inside the skull. The immediate problem isn’t the lack of surgeons; it is the lack of shunts. There aren’t any. And there isn’t any money to buy any. What Dr. Marinus Koning would like to do is raise funds to purchase shunts for the Myungsung Christian Medical Center , in concert with Medical Teams International, for a new clinic specifically for hydrocephalic children. For every $40 raised, a child’s life will be saved.

Trip to Seattle part 2

This was on Saturday after the ferry.
We went to Pike's Market and had lunch.
There is a big brass piggy bank and Auggie and Rosie got to put coins in.

On Sunday we went to the Locks and saw the boats go through.
Then we went to the Salmon ladders.
This is Dimitri with fish ladders behind him.
There was a building outside the Locks that Rosie and Auggie enjoyed.
They are quite the climbers.

Trip to Seattle part 1

Dimitri and I spent his last weekend in Seattle.
We had a great time visiting my brother Rob, sis-in-law Becky, and the twins, August and Rose.
Augie and Rosie enjoyed showing "Dimiwi" Seattle.

We took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island.

It was Dimitri's first time on a boat.

The twins played "monkeys in a cage."

When we went home, Rob turned on the water and the twins had a great time.
Then Rob puts sausages on the grill and we had a very nice dinner outside on their patio.

Easter Day Festivities

I had a wonderful Easter. It is my favorite day of the year. After church I went to the home of my daughters' mother, Katherine. She has welcomed me into their family and I like spending holidays with them. This first picture is of the two of us. Not sure why it is blurry.

This is Joey and Betty.
This is Molly with her first boyfriend, another Joey.

This is Betty and her sister Connie.
Great smiles.

Birthday Fun

Everyone at the party got to help decorate Rob's birthday cake, including the twins.
It made for an interesting cake which included a mini corndog on a stick.

Rose helps daddy spin the tunes.

Rose and Auggie each bought daddy a balloon and then enjoyed running around the party with them flying behind.

Rob got a new hat for his brithday.

The hostess provided my favorite part of the evening!
A chocolate fountain.

Getting ready

So this is Becky, Rob, Rose and August all dressed up and ready to celebrate Rob's 40th birthday. Such a cute family.

Here I am "a whole new Juel" as Auggie put it.
